I was born in 1973 and raised in Tampa, FL, which makes me a child of the 70’s and 80’s; a time when the Cold War was very real and the invention of the home computer began revolutionizing every aspect of life. Most of my teen and early adult years were spent pursuing a career in fine arts. I attended the art campus of Hillsborough Community College in Tampa and worked in a studio from 1991–1994, during which time I painted, sculpted, and worked with photography. I also worked in the design and commercial prop industry for nearly eight years.
In 1994, I met my beautiful wife, Kimberly, and we married in March of 1998. After joining the First Baptist Church of Lutz in 1998, God began radically to transform and challenge me at every point in my life, which led to a sense of God calling me into the ministry. Since then, I have studied at Leavell College, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and Bard College; and served as pastor in Baptist Churches in both Mississippi and Florida.
We now have three children: Michael Derek (age 15), Cayden Lee (age 12), and Savannah Grace (age 9). Needless to say, we never have a dull moment in our house.
